Adrian C. Cooksey-Wilson joined the Florida Department of Health in September 2002 and was appointed Administrator for the Florida Department of Health in Gadsden County in August 2015. Dr. Cooksey previously served as Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Manager (2010-2013) and State Program Administrator (2013-2015) for the Department of Health’s STD and Viral Hepatitis Program.
Her public health interests include community engagement, leveraging data to improve health outcomes, and health equity. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching the future leaders of public health at several universities and participating on community boards that support meaningful public health service delivery.
A native of Louisiana, Dr. Cooksey graduated from Dillard University in New Orleans with a Bachelor’s in Community Health/ Physical Therapy. She furthered her education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University where she graduated with a Master’s in Public Health and a Doctorate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
